Peter Bignell the Mad Scientist of Tassie whisky, built his own 500L Copper Still using bio-fuel to avoid wasting excess rye crop from a high-yield year. He used this Still to create Australia's first 100% rye whisky. Bignell uses waste cooking oil as the only significant material brought to the farm and produces whisky as the main product. The spent mash is fed to the Belgrove sheep, and cooling water comes from collected rainwater and Bignell's dam. Waste water is either recycled or used for irrigation, including the next rye crop. Brewing and diluting water is harvested from Peter's roofs, and the yeast is often reused.
